January: New Beginnings

“Newly Alive”

by Dr. Larry Morris

What better time to come alive than right now, to feel the heartbeat of the universe coursing through our veins, to feel the life force pulsating through our nervous system. This day is unlike any day we've lived before. Who we are is different and unlike anyone we have been up to now. This is not a rehearsal or a rerun. We are in this life for keeps. Let's really live it.

A new year is here; we can choose to be alive, really alive, in a new way in this new year—releasing the mechanical repetition of the past and allowing ourselves to be fresh, young, innocent and ever-new. Let yourself be alive now in a way unlike anything before, and joy will be yours.

“New Plan”

by Dr. susan nettleton

The New Year is our opportunity to plan for new life. Many times we are fearful of making plans because we do not believe that our lives are our own. We feel like children waiting for an adult to tell us what to do, waiting for them or circumstances to arrange our lives for us. Sometimes we are paralyzed by disappointment. Our plans have failed; why bother to try again? Plans are guidelines that give direction to our energy, time, choices, and attention. To be effective they come out of our deepest values and hearts' longings. This New Year will undoubtedly bring some unplanned events, but if we know where we are headed, if we know what is important to us, if we return again and again to our guidelines, over time we discover that our lives do express who we are. Over time, we live our values and our dreams and we build lives of authority and integrity.

“YOU MADE NEW”

BY DR. LARRY MORRIS

Let's be a new person today. Why not allow the new life its way with us? We don't have to struggle to bring forth the new. Just let a new you come into your life now—no straining after results, no need to wonder: did it happen? No need to fret and fuss— relax into the new you now—release the brakes for the new you—open the floodgate of your heart and be filled to overflowing with newness of life.

“WINTER RENEWAL”

BY DR. LARRY MORRIS

Winter can be a time of tremendous forward movement, energy and momentum, or it can be a time of inertia and stuckness. We can choose how we want to relate to the cold time of the year. This can either be a season of a new spiritual awakening for us or a time that we sleepwalk our way through. Let's decide this morning to let the cold winter ignite a fire of resolution to fast forward on our spiritual path. Let's be bold and resolute and undaunted by obstacles. We can allow our hearts to be aflame with a renewed intensity and longing for spiritual realization right now.
