“If It’s Not on the Menu, Ask Anyway”
by Dr. Larry Morris
A man once was ordering breakfast in a restaurant. What he really wanted was oatmeal, but since he didn't see it on the menu, he settled for eggs and toast. As he was eating his eggs, another man sat down on the stool next to him. When the waitress took his order, this man ordered a bowl of oatmeal and cream. When the waitress promptly returned with the oatmeal—the first man said to her, "I wanted oatmeal but it wasn't on the menu." The waitress replied, "You have to ask." Sometimes we tend to settle for what is on our menu in life and we may just need to be willing to ask for what we really want. Don't settle for satisfactions in a world too small—if you don't see it, ask anyway.
