“Heart and Head”

by Dr. Larry Morris

Someone once said: from the head to the heart is a journey of a thousand miles—meaning that when we live only from the intellectual or mental level, we miss that which connects us to the joy and love of this life. Sometimes we close off our hearts because our feelings are so intense and sensitive that we think we will be better off living at a more cerebral level. But we find that mental reasoning is no substitute for living from the heart. When we get tired of the mechanical pattern of our life, we automatically open ourselves to our feeling nature. Our feelings give us the joy of this life. Don't quit on your feelings just because sometimes they get hurt—we can open our hearts right now and experience a new sense of gladness and gratitude at the sheer fact of being alive on this earth.
