“Cruise Control”
by Dr. Larry Morris
Maybe our car has a gadget on the steering wheel for highway driving called cruise control. When we are out on the highway, we can set the control to a specific speed and take our foot off of the gas pedal. When the cruise control is set, our car will stay at that speed, it won't go faster and it won't go slower until we release the setting. Sometimes in our lives, we find ourselves on cruise control. An idea or image about ourselves got set inside of us at some time and we are still operating in the same way and still feeling about ourselves as we did whenever that idea or image was set inside of us. Yet it is very simple to release the cruise control setting on our car; and it is also very simple to release the image or idea inside of ourselves that was set in the past. We just let it go.
